Public Ethnomusicology

No Other Home: The Crimean Tatar Repatriates was my first foray into the world of public, or applied, ethnomusicology. The next big public project was The Chornobyl Songs Project: Living Culture from a Lost World, which started in late 2011. That project gave birth to the New York City-based vocal group Ensemble Hilka, trained by ethnomusicologist and singer Yevhen Yefremov from Kyiv, Ukraine–the founder of the influential village-style folklore group Drevo.
